Method of preparation

Prepare the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit)

Grease the baking pan with butter, sprinkle with flour, shake off the excess, and refrigerate the pan

Peel the bananas, place them in a bowl, and mash the pulp with a fork until you have a uniform puree. The riper the bananas, the easier they are to mash

Melt the butter or margarine in the microwave or in a double boiler, cut it into small cubes before melting. Beat it with sugar, gradually adding the eggs and vanilla

Add the mashed bananas to the mixture and mix well

Add the sifted flour to the mixture along with the baking powder and salt. It’s better to use a mixer here, as the mixture is quite thick, and we want to avoid lumps

Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet for 8-10 minutes. Let them cool, then chop them into large pieces (keeping a couple aside for decoration) and add them to the batter. Mix well

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and level it. A loaf or cake pan works best for this

Decorate the top with the remaining walnuts

Bake the banana bread in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes. Baking time may vary depending on the size of your pan; longer, narrower pans require less time. The bread should rise by about a quarter. Check for doneness with a toothpick or wooden skewer; it should come out dry

Remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool for 20 minutes

Slice and serve with tea. The bread is delicious when it’s fresh out of the oven and also keeps well for the next day

A tip: let the bananas sit for 3 days in a dark place. This will make them soft and more pliable. If you don’t have time, you can use fresh ones; it’s not a problem
