On January 20, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 14 “On the Appointment of a Republican Referendum.”
According to the document, the republican referendum on the question of amending the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is scheduled for February 27, 2022.
The Decree specifies the wording of the question to be presented in the referendum, which will be literally reproduced in the voting ballot: “Do you accept the amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?” The proposed amendments and additions to the Constitution to be put to the referendum are attached to the Decree.
In accordance with the requirements established by the Electoral Code, the decision adopted by the republican referendum is legally binding. The procedure for the decision to enter into force is specified – ten days after its official publication. It is stated that the decision adopted by the referendum is an integral part of the Constitution.
